How does a musical artist explore their star persona through techniques of music video?

  • Katy Perry's music videos have changed recently this is because her star persona has changed. Before she highlighted the fact she was feminine ,however now her star persona represents her as a quirky, unique person. 
  • In Roar and Swish Swish the use of mid shots is used a number of times ,for similar reasons. Roar uses it so we get a taste of the nature themed scene  and see Katy Perry at the same time. Swish Swish uses it so the audience knows the that it is set in a basketball game.
  • In Roar Katy Perry throws away her shoe ,which symbolises her throwing away her femininity and becoming the queen of the jungle.
  • Additionally, Katy is wearing revealing clothing, this represents her as a sex object,this could  make her appealing to men ,although she is not overly objectified as she is represented as powerful. It is similar to Swish Swish as she is also presented sexually but her less feminine persona distorts this idea.
  • Swish Swish uses a high/birds eye view shot to contrasts the basketball court size with her which represents her as bad at sports and follows stereotypes of females.
  • She also mocks herself to make her video humorous and rememberable, Roar does not so this.
  • In Roar close ups to show she has confidence ,but also used to show she has very natural make up on to match the scenery, Swish Swish does the same thing but to show she has dramatic make up to follow stereotype of females and sports.
  • Towards the end in Swish Swish she is represented as power just like Roar.
  • Tracking shots are used in both to show her importance.
  • Female sexuality- Niki Minaj compared to how other women look in Swish Swish which can link in with binary opposites.  
  • in Swish Swish the motif  can be said that it rejects stereotypes.

                            My 60 second video about me                               This is a short video that shows pictures and a few clips of what I like doing and what I have previously done. I included images like what types of foods I like which also shows my culture as a Turkish Cypriot. I included pictures of what types of sports I did and my memorable experience, which was going to paintballing with my family, which I highly recommend as a family activity. There are many other pictures which shows where I go on holidays and what I like. I choose 3 specific transitions for my images and videos so it would look different then an ordinary.

Analyising Film Posters and Film Trailers  This film poster advertises the new film, Identity Thief. Within this poster there are a multiple use of colour and lightning especially showing the split scene. This shows the contrast in many ways, one being the lighting of the photos, the female has loads of colour within her outfit and by far looks more happier then the male on the left. Secondly the contrast of colour for the male is more dull and unlike the females happy expression the male actor has a more harsher and confused look. The layout and design is not like most posters where for example there may be a key figure alongside a landscape behind. The font and typography can be described as quite thick, bold, and big. They only consist of a minimum of 3 colours, white, grey and yellow. However the use of yellow means that it highlights the important factors on the poster for example " Thief " can represent the genre of the film which could be partly action/crime
