Representations and Stereotypes on: AGE 




How are young people and older people represented in the media?
This newspaper on the left shows how young people are represented in the media. This newspaper was taken during the events of the London riots that took place on the 6th-10th August 2011. I think is this a good example to show how young people are seen in the media and how it represents who they are. The younger generation is represented negatively in media texts more which can cause controversy. This newspaper shows that during the London riots, young people of all gender, race, ethnicity, background etc the print media were more dominant of showing them as dangerous and hostile people. This can also link to stereotypes such as those who may wear a tracksuit with a hoodie, their associated with knives, drugs and crime and many more. Also, it gives the impression to people that they should stay away from them. However it can be argued that it was unfair to present them in a way where all young people are unapproachable because they may cause harm and danger. To support this there are many examples where there are teenagers who do good and are shown as helpful and positive young humans for example those who are involved with raising funds for children in need. 

On the other hand you also get older people who are also not represented as quite positive people. Examples such as Catherine Tate's nan and the film Red 2 all show a a representation on the older generation. Most old people are stereotyped as being deaf and grumpy all the time. It also shows that becoming old they are seen that as a negative as the media produces adverts for ageing products representing ageing to be a challenge. However people don't think about how much things are photoshopped or airbrushed which can hide most signs of ageing. Catherine Tate's nan is acted out as an grumpy and intolerant person. Although a positive sign of ageing is shown in Red 2 where a more energetic side who don't just sit at home moaning about the littlest things which may not even have any relevance/importance to them

Analyising Film Posters and Film Trailers  This film poster advertises the new film, Identity Thief. Within this poster there are a multiple use of colour and lightning especially showing the split scene. This shows the contrast in many ways, one being the lighting of the photos, the female has loads of colour within her outfit and by far looks more happier then the male on the left. Secondly the contrast of colour for the male is more dull and unlike the females happy expression the male actor has a more harsher and confused look. The layout and design is not like most posters where for example there may be a key figure alongside a landscape behind. The font and typography can be described as quite thick, bold, and big. They only consist of a minimum of 3 colours, white, grey and yellow. However the use of yellow means that it highlights the important factors on the poster for example " Thief " can represent the genre of the film which could be partly action/crime...

                            My 60 second video about me                               This is a short video that shows pictures and a few clips of what I like doing and what I have previously done. I included images like what types of foods I like which also shows my culture as a Turkish Cypriot. I included pictures of what types of sports I did and my memorable experience, which was going to paintballing with my family, which I highly recommend as a family activity.
